L.G. "Snuffy" Perry

Mr. L.G. “Snuffy” Perry, age 89 of Commerce, Georgia who entered into rest Thursday, November 27, 2014. Mr. Perry was born in Madison County, Georgia the son of the late Luke Henry Perry and Mellie Elizabeth Perry, and in addition to his parents he was also preceded by his wife, Sarah Gordon Perry and 10 brothers and sisters.“Snuffy” as he was affectionately known, graduated from Ila High School in 1946, enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre on the U.S.S. Tripoli, honorably discharged and attended Piedmont College and University of Georgia. Working as a salesman for George W. Helmne Tobacco Company, he became a household name in many homes throughout Northeast Georgia. “Snuffy” served as Jackson County Sheriff, 1965 – 1967, owned and operated Perry’s Men’s Store in downtown Commerce 1970-1984 and became President of Northeast Georgia Bonding Company 1985 – 1996, served as President of Commerce Jaycees, was the local and District Commander of McCoy – Borders Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the Commerce Masonic Lodge and was a member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Commerce.Survivors include son, Greg Perry and his wife Becky, son, Steve Perry and his wife Marsha. Four grandsons; Jeff Perry (LeighAnn), John Perry (Sarah), Matt Perry (Erin) and Adam Perry (Jenny). Five great grandchildren, Logan, Adella, Dylan, Luke and Anna Rebecca. Four Siblings; Robert Perry, Lamartine Perry, Martha Black and Grace Robertson, also survive.Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Commerce, with Dr. Carlton Allen officiating with burial to follow in Grey Hill Cemetery. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Jeff, John, Matt and Adam Perry, Irving Ramsey and Stan Evans. The family will receive friends 1 – 3 P.M.
