Mrs. Floy Nell Smith Wood

Floy Nell Taylor Smith Wood, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Nicholson, Georgia, on January 15, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on September 23, 1938, in Gillsville, Georgia, to Emory Spear and Alice Parsons Taylor, Floy Nell— as she was lovingly known—lived a life marked by love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was the rock and heart of her family, always offering warmth, wisdom, and faithful prayers for those around her. Floy was known for her faithful service to the Lord. Her devotion took her far beyond her hometown to London, England, and to many places around the world, where she walked humbly among God’s children, serving others with kindness and grace. Yet, despite her many travels and ministries, her greatest joy was always time spent with her family. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she took immense pride in each of her children, creating lasting memories through cooking meals and baking countless cakes, family vacations, working in her beloved yard and most faithfully mowing her grass. She is survived by her son, Richard Smith (Ricky), her stepdaughter, Cathy Wood Haines; her sister, Gladys (Al) Cain, her grandchildren, Shawn Smith Ivory (Marcus), Joshua Smith, Wes Smith (Kerry), Nick Arostegui, Shea Totherow (Josh), Daniel Carder (Tessa); and her great-grandchildren, Marnie, Landon, Allie, Bella, Caitlin, Jessica, KG, Stella, Alex, Drayke and Houstyn. All will carry her love, faith, and lessons forward. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Smith, and her second husband, Frank Wood. Her sisters; Mildred (Paul) Garrison and Bertha (Austin) Whitlock. Floy’s legacy of love lives on in the many lives she touched. Her love and prayers will guide us always. A woman of deep faith, she walked humbly among God’s children, serving others with kindness and grace. She loved the Lord and trusted in Jesus Christ, and her life was a reflection of that faith. Though we mourn her passing, we rejoice in knowing she now walks in the presence of her Savior, reunited with loved ones and at peace in God’s eternal care. Funeral services will be at 3 PM, Sunday, January 18 at River of Life Worship Center with Rev. J.D. Sosebee officiating. Interment will follow in Nicholson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 3 PM on Sunday. Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce is in charge of arrangements.
